There were 729 Covid deaths (per death certs) in the most recent week in the U.K.

Another increase.

Yet we’re letting SARS-CoV-2 rip despite knowing that infections can also cause a host of other illnesses including diabetes & autoimmune diseases

Why?

28,041 deaths attributed to #COVID19 during 2022

25,768 had been vaccinated against COVID19 (92%)

2,273 were #Unvaccinated (8%)

For anyone who missed it, here is my thread of excess deaths in Australia to the end of May 2022
First off, the ABS provisional mortality statistics show a breakdown by age/gender. But the age groups are very broad (0-44, 45-64, 65-74, 75-84, 85+). So there could be trends occurring within the age bands that are hidden when grouped together.

Our latest assessment of excess deaths in Australia. This covers excess deaths from all causes to 31 March, plus excess deaths from COVID-19 only until 30 June.
A thread/
#CovidAus #ExcessDeaths #ExcessMortality
Total excess mortality for March 2022 estimated at 6% (+800 deaths).
Almost half of the excess is due to doctor-certified COVID-19 deaths. Other unspecified causes and coroner-referred deaths (which includes some COVID-19 deaths) also made a significant contribution.
With January at 19% excess mortality and February at 14%, this takes total excess mortality for the first quarter of 2022 to 13% (+5,100 deaths).
Only one week in 2022 has been close to predicted; all other weeks have been above the 97.5th percentile.

🆕 ✨According to a new @theLancet study on excess deaths, IHME’s Haley Comfort, Spencer Pease, & Stefanie Watson discuss there were 18 MILLION #ExcessDeaths due to the pandemic in 2020 & 2021. Read their post about the study in @ThinkGlobalHlth

💡What are #ExcessDeaths? It’s a measure comparing the trends of deaths in previous years vs. deaths during the #COVID19 pandemic. The abnormal spike in deaths during 2020 and 2021 → excess deaths
Deaths ⬆️ than expected: #India, #US, #Russia, #Mexico, #Brazil, #Indonesia, #Pakistan accounted for over half the world’s 18mil excess deaths, partially due to population size

NEW—Global estimates of #ExcessDeaths indicates that 18.2 million people may have died because of the #COVID19 pandemic by December 31, 2021, according to our analysis published in @TheLancet
thelancet.com/journals/lance…
The peer-reviewed analysis found over 18 million* deaths as opposed to the reported nearly 6 million deaths, more than 3 times higher.

“COVID effectively increased the global death rate each year by nearly 20% in both 2020 and 2021,” said IHME Director Chris Murray ⤵
💡So what is #ExcessMortality?

Our excess mortality estimates reflect the full impact of the #pandemic on mortality around the world (after correcting for known biases), not just the deaths directly attributable to SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Next in the series on #excessdeaths in India: #Maharashtra. We find that excess deaths were 2.8-4.1 times the official COVID19 toll between April 2020 and May 2021.
thehindu.com/news/national/… (1/n)
The online registrations data showed 6,67,900 & 6,93,800 deaths in 2018 and 2019 : 63.9% & 66.6% of the CRS' (2019) numbers. Plus some 6 districts had inconsistent data in 2018 and 2019. To come up with a clearer "excess deaths" estimate, we omitted them for adjustment (2/n)
If excess deaths were adjusted based on the % availability of data for 2018 & 2019 & re-calculated for the State (without the six omitted districts), the estimate increased to 3,10,727 deaths corresponding to a multiple of 4.1 over the official death toll of 75,877. (3/n)
