Image

There is no concept of Engagement in Islam :A ThreadđŸ§” Image
#Engagement”
Engagement is the time between acceptance of the marriage proposal (khitba) and the marriage ceremony (‘aqd). Once the proposal is accepted, the man and the woman are known as “engaged to be married or simply “engaged”. Engagement has no recognition in Islamic laws Image
Who Proposes?

#Traditionally in all #cultures, it is the man who proposes to the woman; and it is done either directly by the man himself or on his behalf by his family. In the
West, even now man is expected to get down on his one knee to propose to the woman he wants to marry Image

My trip to a Christian Market
#PublicSchool #Report
By Shlomit Ben David, age 10

Last week my family and me visited New York, where many Christians live.

1/17
My dad asked if I wanted to visit a #Christian #ethnic #neighborhood and I said yes because I am very interested in all #different #cultures. In the Christian neighborhood there were special places for Christian people to enjoy.

2/17
I saw treyf restaurants, Christian shuls, Christaica shops, and even a special #Christian #market where they buy their special treyf food. I asked if we can go into the market and my dad said yes.

LUHYA CULTURAL MARRIAGES PROCEDURE & ORDER OF EVENTS

A significant number of Luhyas still follow the traditional marriage route rather than the “civilised” route called wedding.

The very first step is INTRODUCTION.

Introduction is when the man goes with a group of his

fellow young men and at least a lady in the company (mostly the sister) to introduce himself. During the introduction, the main man who will be looking for a hand in marriage in the woman’s home will not talk or will talk very little, he will instead have a spokesman and an

assistant whom he will be seated in between them. (The essence if the lady in the company is mostly to act as a messenger in future if the marriage request is approved so that whenever there is an issue within his brother’s marriage and the wife leaves, she is the one who

Favorite facts about #languages and #cultures in #contact
In #Arabic we say: “Footprints indicate trajectory”, but I never thought that a wheel would reveal a culture. This is how #cultures can be traced through #languages. The reading made me feel like I am solving a puzzle more than exploring languages.
Think twice before starting to learn #English, cuz you’ll end up learning even more -- #German and #French, and more

After all, it was the Anglo-Saxons and Normans who influenced the vocabulary!!
English is a mixed #language!

At the start of this week, I said that I've grown up between 2 #cultures. I imagine many of you navigate more than one #culture 2. So what are some of your experiences navigating more than one culture? #navigating2cultures

For example, for me....
At work, I use cutlery; at home, I eat rice & curry with my hands. That is the best way to eat rice and curry. Eating with cutlery just doesn't cut it. You can't mix the food in the same way. & while we're myth busting, we NEVER eat just 1 curry with rice!!!

#navigating2cultures
My mum once sent me to school with coconut oil in my hair - because in Sri Lanka, coconut oil is thought to be good for hair. Of course, everyone laughed at me and I never did that again! Now, I see coconut oil is in lots of hair products...đŸ€” #navigating2cultures
