German officials heckled out of restaurant by rowdy mob
The owner actually encouraged this shameful behavior. Hard to blame the German officials for using their influence to shut the place down.

One of the reasons the scene packs so much emotional weight is that the Director, Michael Curtiz, packed the extras with French refugees singing their national anthem while their country was being occupied
Even Col Strasser was a refugee. Conrad Veidt gave up a successful German acting career. While not Jewish, he declared himself to be in solidarity with his wife. Goebbels blacklisted him. Veidt donated his life savings to the British war effort.
