Appreciate the response Don. You have always seemed like a fair guy but I don’t think you watched the segment. I didn’t make that comparison and wouldn’t. Stephanie and I were discussing the range of unacceptable rhetoric and she began with Trump ralllies and I countered with
the McConnell assault and was adding the alleged ricin attack on @SenatorCollins when interrupted. Some troll jumped in with the “bomber = heckler” repulsive comparison and I think you just mistakenly bit. There is equivalence between the angry obsessive who attacked Scalise and
the one who sent the bombs, and there are equivalencies on left and right down the whole spectrum of menacing to actual violence. What matters to reasonable people is that they actually hear the other argument and not react to a straw man, false caricature thrown up by @Twitter.
Opinion leaders, especially, can’t fall into the trap of mischaracterizing their opponent’s arguments. That’s exactly what happened here. But press on. You’d be a welcome guest on my radio show anytime, as have been @HillaryClinton and @JohnKerry. In fact, if you have 20 minutes,
listen to this exchange yesterday with Pulitzer Prize winning historian Joseph Ellis —with whom I have some deep disagreements— on how to argue them out: hughhewitt.com/joseph-ellis-o… Respect for opposing views as opposed to caricature is the key.
