There have been weeks of violent protests in Paris over fuel tax rises to combat climate change. Gasoline costs ~$7/gallon in France, with around $3/gallon in tax. The recent rise was $0.15/gallon this year, with a similar rise planned for next year.
2/ In contrast, gasoline costs roughly half that in the United States, with around only $0.50 in total tax.
3/ People imagine it's Republicans who deny climate change. In reality, no politician on either side of the political spectrum is willing to do the necessary $3/gallon tax rise that is needed to combat climate change.
