There has always been a dilemma for intellectuals and activists wishing to effect political change. Almost 40 years ago Chinua Achebe was caught up in this - he joined the People’s Redemption Party (PRP), but was then forced to quit after almost coming to blows with Bakin Zuwo.
In 1978 Fela Anikulapo Kuti established a political party, Movement of the People (MOP), & tried to run for President. The party was denied registration at the time. He tried again in 1983.

In 2010 WS established a political party, The Democratic Front for a People's Federation.
The dilemma is a real one.

Do you try to establish your own political vehicle?

Or do you find an existing vehicle and align with it? If yes, do you go mainstream (APC/PDP), or do you demonize the mainstream and go fringe (ACPN)?
Do you have the time and patience and resources to build your own platform and make it worth reckoning-with nationally?
