I'm trying as a political anthropologist/historian to explain the urgency of the crossing of the Rubicon to cult worship in Trump.

People are NOT inclined to believe political danger in real time — just hindsight. 1/7
Trump has had every accusation made, every stone kicked and turned, and nothing makes a dent in his cult.

This is dangerous territory: a Malignant Narcissist with political authoritarian beliefs, who has a ever *more* emboldened base growing by the day. 2/7
You can mock and wish away their adoration but you'd be a fool to do so.
You can watch polls and you'll be wrong.
You can rationalise as you've done in past years but you're using normality to explain irrationality. 3/7
The more he is accepted by dictators, the more emboldened he is to break ever more norms.

The more he breaks norms, the more his base *feels* an umbilical worship...a tie to what they're so invested in.

The more they are invested, the more emboldened *they* become. 4/7
And that makes his base dangerous. If you think it's just quirky to sign Bibles, you're missing the point. If you think his increasing lies are because he's panicking, you're missing the point.

They will act, physically, to protect The Great Leader, their Messiah. 5/7
We're in territory that's incredibly alarming now.

I will NOT be surprised if Trump attempts to change term limits.
I will NOT be surprised if he wins in 2020.
I will NOT be surprised if he refuses to leave office if losing (calling for a recount that's rigged).
6/7
The more victimisation Trump decries, the more the base aligns with the underdog. 'Poor poor man...so hounded by the evil people of the world. Can't let communists (aka, to them, social democrats) take over!'

This is no longer a party. It's a cult.
