It's a cliché, but "be kind to yourself" remains one of the best pieces of advice. It's been transformative for me.

With that in mind, I just want to expand a little on the much-misunderstood topic of 'self-care'.

#MentalHealthAwarenessWeek
For many of us, who have to monitor our mental health closely, it's not optional or a 'nice-to-have'. It's the difference between getting ill and staying well.
What self-care looks like varies from person to person, and it doesn't have to cost anything. For me it's the following:

- A warm bath
- A walk in the park
- Exercise
- A long sleep
- A good book
- Meditation & mindfulness
- Seeing friends and familly
- Taking time to enjoy food
Note: self-care is NOT a replacement for therapy, or for medication, if you need either of those. But it'll help.

It's also a way of thinking: forgiving yourself for mistakes, letting yourself do nothing that day, and congratulating yourself when you're doing well.
It might sound indulgent, but far from being selfish, being self-compassionate will make you feel more compassionate and empathetic towards others, too.

It isn't easy to stay well in this world sometimes, so look after yourself, and do not apologise for it xxx

And as always, please feel free to ask me anything if you lovely folks find any of this useful and have questions :-)
On wow, how did I forget music on this list?! Definitely put that right up at the top.
