Apparently we’re going to be locked in debates about GATT Art24 forever, even when it’s not mentioned.

Now it's @andrealeadsom’s turn.

And here’s the relevant part of GATT Art24 — paragraph 8.

Considering how Art24 has now become a centre-piece of Brexit, politicians should be thoroughly familiar with it.

You can't have a tariff agreement only in medicines and agrifoods.

Forgive me for being puzzled by this claim that the UK-S.Korea agreement provides “total” continuity.

This text is not available yet. But so far the agreements with major trading partners don’t seem to be “total”. Am I missing something?

For a start, deals with Switzerland, & with Norway/Iceland, do not cover services.

The one with Switzerland is only “total” for goods during the Withdrawal Agreement’s transition, not if the UK & EU have no deal, and not beyond the WA’s transition.

China has circulated a new paper in the WTO fisheries subsidies negotiations, a timely reminder that members want proposals consolidated into a single draft text by the end of July.

The new Chinese paper proposes three methods for "capping" fisheries subsidies, without specifying yet what those caps should be.

It also proposes "Green Box" subsidies, which would be uncapped, and special treatment for developing countries.

P.S. Note that setting subsidy limits as a percentage of a base period figure (money paid, catch size, or workforce size) means those limits are fixed even while the industry expands or population/workforce grows

4. If it’s “virtually frictionless trade” why replace it with a “final” deal? A short-term deal while negotiating a better one is bound to be inadequate

process of waking up. Or else, you’re teasing yourselves, with some kind of flirtation with waking up; which you’re not serious about. But i assume here maybe you are not serious, but sincere, that you are ready to wake up.
So then when you are in the way of waking up and finding out who you really are, what you do is what the whole universe is doing at the place you call here and now.

1) history rewritten, how "No Deal" #Brexit came from nowhere to be official brexiter policy

The brexit process has given us a remarkable insight into how history can be rewritten

Everyone apparently voted for no deal brexit even though it was rarely mentioned pre referendum
2) Firstly, the Brexit sold in the referendum was "Cost free cakeism" Brexit. Vote leave might promote Norway or other versions as temporary examples but basically, it was going to be easy, we held all the cards and they needed us more than we needed them
3) it is truly *bizarre* that brexit supporters forget this.
"We knew it would be difficult/costly/disruptive" is a constant comment on Twitter

How? Because certainly no leave leader said it would be & the constant image was a £350 M bonus for the NHS
