@AaronWherry According to the report, it was SNC-Lavalin's idea to use the budget implementation bill to introduce deferred prosecution agreements to Canada
This is wild. The PMO encouraged Wilson-Raybould to get an opinion from someone else like Bev McLachlin, having *already* quietly gotten that opinion
Apparently SNC thought itself rather entitled to that remediation agreement
This seems awfully cozy
Meanwhile, the McLellan report, which explored the possibility of splitting up the AG & Justice Minister roles, has just dropped
If the system works, as McLellan appears to suggest, one could reasonably deduce the problem was with *players* failing to respect prosecutorial independence
Trudeau says he takes issue with the ethics commissioner suggesting that any contact with the AG over these matters is improper. In fact, the ethics commissioner says exactly the opposite:
