It’s aggravating that some progressives are so convinced of their moral superiority that they excuse their leaders lies and cling to foundational CCF stories they know nothing about.
The two cats represented the two party system that existed federally in Canada at the time. The mice are the forgotten western Canadians that were left to fend for themselves during the Great Depression in the region hardest hit by the Depression globally, western Canada.
They weren’t representative of the labour movement, they were representative of small business farmers. Radical for their time and circumstances, but not anarchists by any means. They weren’t advocating for destruction of social order or eradication of capitalism.
CCF was a mostly a farmer’s coalition. Relief efforts were made by Ottawa for urban labourers. To ensure wealthy employers didn’t go bankrupt. But subsistence farmers were left to fend for themselves. The CCF was formed to provide a voice & moral voice to Canadian politics.
The modern NDP have lost all connection with their roots. Which means their beliefs and values are not represented by Clare Gillis’ Story “Mouseland” at all. It’s adulterated revisionist history to claim “Mouseland” represents modern NDP or GPC ideology. It does not.
Supporting a demagogue on either end of the spectrum is the current option presented by populist NDP and GPC.

We need more than a representative in parliament. We need a majority government to address climate action. We need a party with expertise, not dreams and fantasies.
Tommy Douglas was a pragmatist socialist. He was not a radical.

A pragmatist knows that you don’t try to elect a minority government. You don’t try to engineer power. You deal with reality and accept the limitations that it presents. You deal with the hand you’re dealt.
NDP and GPC combined still have less popular support than both Liberals or Conservatives.

That isn’t going to change before Election Day.

Casting a vote for either party might get your riding NDP or GPC representation, but it will also split the vote and allow CPC to win.
Unless you vote strategically.
Western Canadian Farmers were known for stalwart pragmatism.

It’s who founded the NDP party. The CCF en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Co-operat…

A certain amount of pragmatism is required to avoid electing CPC to a win.

Be a pragmatist. Vote your conscience if you can. Otherwise vote Liberal.
Our collective futures depend on it. Not dreams and wishful thinking.
