It's really sad that in the MENA region, so many of us are unaware of the often deep and intergenerational traumas of others. Everyone is too caught up in their own story to care about the tragic stories of the others.
I've been around long enough to know that a lot of the hurtful comments leveled by some against others are a result of ignorance. Yes some are intentionally hurtful but with most people most of the time it's ignorance.
We don't talk to each other about each other's grievances and don't have the patience or compassion to hear people express their pain without taking it personally as if it's somehow a statement against us, or takes away from *our* pain.
A project that simply gets various people from the MENA region to vent, to air out their grievances, to talk about their traumas, such a project if done right would be transformative. To even have a shot at healing, we must talk.
The thing is that every dictator in the region sees it as their job to divide and isolate people and to pit them against each other. Solidarity is literally a mortal threat to dictatorship. They have to keep us divided in order for them to survive.
By extending your compassion to the others in the region, by learning about their traumas, by understanding their grievances - it's literally a revolutionary act. And anybody can do it. So let's do it.
