Thread. On my knees (sofa) after 5 conferences in 7 days. Lessons learned (this could take several days)...

1. Nothing is educating as demanding as full-time working in a school.
2. Teachers are the most efficient and reliable people I know.
Lesson 3: if something someone says or writes chimes with you, tell them. To those who stopped my by coffee machines and outside toilet cubicles to do so, I could have (and quite possibly did) hug you all. It means the world. Thank you x
4. Check your privilege, check your judgements, check the room, check the speakers. Prejudice must be challenged - in ourselves as well, even if it’s uncomfortable.
Lesson 5: you might think the self-deprecation makes you endearing, but it doesn’t. It just makes others think it’s ok to put themselves down too. (Credit: @drkarenedge)
Lesson 6. Not even those who are most brilliant (or especially those) are immune to hurt, burnout, self-doubt and imposter syndrome.
Lesson 7: Inspiration isn’t just a concept, it’s a feeling. A mixture of tearfulness, tingling excitement and a sense that the ground must and will shift.
Lesson 8: REALLY don’t be a d*ck. Be kind. The world of education is TINY. In the last two months, I’ve met hundreds abc hundreds of amazing ppl. There has not once been more than one point of connection between each of them and someone I’ve known or worked with.
And no one is immune to bloody typos!!

Lesson 9: EVERYBODY I’ve spoken to now wants to be told off for aggressive ponytail swishing... the infantilisation of teachers really strikes a chord!
Lesson 10: education might seem messy, but as long as it’s in any way represented by the 100s of ppl I’ve been lucky enough to meet, WE’VE GOT THIS!
Lesson 11: 45 is not too old to develop a new hero-crush every day! Watch your backs, @drkarenedge, @esioul @HannahMitchem1 @sally_barfoot!
Lesson 12: are you a leader in school? Do you make your job look and sound like one others would want to do? Really? How often do you use the words ‘busy’ or ‘tired’? Such powerful thought on our teacher crisis from @drkarenedge
Lesson 13: I need a day of self-care and cats and family.
I’ve been thinking lots about this one in my (relatively few) waking hours since writing it. I wonder if a few jokes about cooking disasters or bad fashion choices are find for humanising but to put down the very content/nature of your presentation is a no-no....? @drkarenedge?
Lesson 14: a day of complete hibernation has been necessary to recover!
