@JaySekulow firm paid by @GOP to defend @realDonaldTrump appears to exist only inside a rented mailbox near the White House. But he and 5 other #impeachmenttrial lawyers are paid through non-profit @ACLJ, which is barred from partisan work. My latest @AP apnews.com/9d2ed80ca912d1…
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP The Pennsylvania Avenue box appears to be the sole physical location of the Constitutional Litigation and Advocacy Group, a for-profit corporation co-owned by @JaySekulow. The firm has no website and is not listed in national legal directories. The DC Bar has no record of it.
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP But a half dozen lawyers employed by the non-profit ACLJ are named in recent Senate legal briefs as members of Trump’s defense team — including one of Sekulow’s sons. The ACLJ, as a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) organization, is barred under IRS rules from engaging in partisan activities.
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP @AP reviewed 10 years of tax returns for @ACLJ and other charities tied to @JaySekulow. From 2008-2017, more than $65 million in charitable funds were paid to Sekulow, his wife, his sons, his brother, his sister-in-law, his nephew and corporations they own.
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP “Charities are not supposed to be taking sides in partisan political activities,” said @DanielBorochoff. “Regulators should investigate whether or not charitable resources, such as office, labor, equipment ... are being wrongly utilized to benefit Sekulow’s for-profit law firm.”
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP @DanielBorochoff “That pattern clearly raises questions for those entities that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) as to whether they’re operating for a public benefit or the private benefit of Jay Sekulow and his family members,” said Marc Owens, former @IRSnews non-profits chief
@JaySekulow @GOP @realDonaldTrump @ACLJ @AP @DanielBorochoff @IRSnews “The financial arrangements between ACLJ, CASE and other entities have been reviewed by outside independent experts and are in compliance with all tax laws,” said Gene Kapp, @JaySekulow spokesman.

Asked who outside experts were and whether @AP could talk to them, Kapp was mum.
