It's wild that there are fairly prominent public intellectuals, some with prominent roles in major campaigns, who think racist white men are inherently more receptive to universal healthcare than suburban women
There's this whole alternate history where southern Dems during the New Deal era spent the 40s and 50s fighting for social democracy rather that what they actually did (i.e. pass Taft-Hartley and obstruct things like increased federal education spending)
Even during the relatively short periods when southern dems were willing to vote for New Deal programs, their contribution was generally to make them less generous and much more racially exclusionary.
