So this is policing in the US today: All 57 members of a Buffalo Police Department special unit resigned today. Why?

Because the department suspended 2 from their unit for shoving a 75 year old man to the ground during a protest, causing him to hit his head, lose consciousness and suffer serious injury.

They didn't resign to protest the violence. They resigned because they didn't believe they should be disciplined. They said they were just doing what they were trained to do.

So either these police officers are pretty damn entitled, thinking that the rules of moral behavior and common decency don't apply to them-- or they are being trained to hurt people. Maybe both.

City of Buffalo should accept all their resignations and put the savings from their salaries and pensions into health care, affordable housing or something else that helps people. And they should demand resignation from the supervisors who train them to act this way.

Oh, and by the way, the officers said the man tripped. Watch the video and see if that is true.

They did this in the course of clearing a protest against police violence by enforcing a curfew. This is the definition of a police state.
