Today is Juneteenth. It should be a national holiday.

Just as Americans learn the history of July 4, understanding and celebrating Juneteenth is a critical part of American history.

So I wanted to share a few facts and resources today to do my small part:
The Emancipation Proclamation was signed in 1863, but it did not end slavery immediately.

It was only on this day in 1865, a full two years later, that African Americans enslaved in Texas were, at last, freed and slavery was eradicated.

The history of slavery is painful, but that's exactly why we need to make sure Americans are aware of it.

Like the fact that even in "free" states like California, slavery was still practiced.
