A SERIAL COMMENTARY...

Today, I had one of the most depressing experiences of my life.

My family came to Sacramento in 1947. My first job was as a stock clerk in downtown Sacto in late 1954. Every day, after school at Grant Union High School, I took the 2:40 bus downtown. to
go to work at my $.90/hr job for a Jewish family-owned business. I used my monthly wages to pay the $36/mo mortgage on the house in which my widowed g-mother and I lived. Riding that bus every day to my job downtown gave me a sense of pride and freedom that is beyond imagination.
When I arrived at work, the all-White staff would greet me with warmth and a sandwich, knowing that I might be a little hungry.
When I arrived downtown today, in the heart of the city, at 11:45, shops were closed, businesses were boarded, and the homeless owned the streets.
One man was walking in the middle of the street, between moving vehicles, and babbling at the top of his voice. Across the street from where a “photo-shot” of me was to take place was our state Capitol. The businesses that would ordinarily be open for lobbyists and legislators
were closed. Others walking the streets wore masks and were clearly members of the downtown homeless population. As I witnessed this scene, my first thought was what can be done to get these people off the street? They need an environment that is more conducive to their needs.
My second thought was how can commerce be resumed in the downtown area of California’s Capitol city? I know that many of these businesses will never again be opened. Thus, my sadness! Was it really necessary for the gov’t to force the closure of these businesses, or was that
an overreaction? I know that COVID is not responsible for all of these windows and doors being shuttered. That has been done because of some “peaceful protests” that occurred recently in downturn Sacto. My conclusion: we have become too quick to defer to the judgment of elected
officials. Well over 60 years ago, there were Whites who were willing to give a poor Black kid an opportunity if he was willing to work hard. Their love and human decency are cheapened when claims of White Supremacy are put forth. And I become equally guilty if I remain silent in
the face of such charges. To Joseph Schwartz, wherever you may be, I say thank you and all of those who worked at the Fabric Center for the opportunity given to me. I will never forget it.
To all who have read my recent thread, i regret that some of the posts have not been loaded by Twitter in sequence. I appreciate your counsel, but I was doing what you suggested. But, if post 2 has not been loaded and I send post 3, it will be placed in the thread before 2.

I am totally preoccupied with the election this Nov. It will be the most consequential in my lifetime. I see this as an election which will determine not only the direction of America for the next four years but for decades to come.

Take stock of where we are and how we got here
2/Candidate Biden was on the ropes and headed for defeat for a third time when Congressman Clyburn, with the acquiescence of progressives, endorsed him. Biden is an old school politician. He was grateful and promised to become the “most progressive president in American history.”
3/ Progressives believe that USA is a racist country under the spell of “white supremacy.” They want a world without borders. They delight in seeing young brown men storming our Texas border. Let’s call it for what it is! To them, Biden has performed an act of political heroism.

In 1961, the late president John F Kennedy said “race has no place in American life or law.” With the decision by the Supreme Court forbidding the use of race in college admissions, I can hear the voice of JFK saying, “I told you so.”

At a time when our country is desperate for

In eloquent and compelling fashion, they hit the restart button for a nation that seems to have forgotten that it was

The Supreme Court seems poised to end the era of racial grievance that has held sway over our nation for roughly 7 decades. In the name of “affirmative action” America has consistently betrayed one of its most basic obligations, namely to treat every American as an equal “without
2/ regard to race, sex, color, ethnicity or national origin. Here in California, despite all of our differences and seeming political peculiarities, we cherish equal rights so much that we have enshrined that principle in our state constitution and reaffirmed it in 2020. We will

A: With 15 days until the midterm election of 2022, and with pre-election voting already underway, the outcome of this election remains in doubt. Yet, if you believe in the ideals currently in place in America, this is the most consequential election in generations. There

I am sometimes accused of being supportive of “illegal” immigration because I say that most of those who cross our border seeking entry to America do so seeking a better life for themselves and their families.

Public policymaking is often very nuanced with no clear black and
2/ white, and many shades of gray. Immigration is such a topic, but “illegal” is, for me, wrong. One of my traits - a weakness some political operatives would suggest - is to at least try to look at as many sides of an issue as possible. My surrogate mother always told me that

We want and need immigrants. America was founded by immigrants. It is an incalculable benefit to America to harbor an immigrant spirit, to be a welcoming place to newcomers. We are also

I am asked if my decision to vote against all Dems in the 2022 midterm election is a form of “prejudice.” To be honest, I guess it is. But, this is a form of prejudice that is informed by facts and is based on performance rather than immutable traits. Politics and public
