A thread about tonight’s Liberal leadership debate... 1/17 #nspoli
Do party leadership debates matter? Especially when less than 100 ppl are watching, including partisans of other parties, non-members and media? ... 2/17 #nspoli
Membership sales and organization to connect with new and existing members and get them to vote ultimately wins leadership races, not debates… 3/17 #nspoli
As to the debate itself, Jane Taber’s polished performance was a reminder that this is the first party leadership race in more than a decade in NS without a female candidate… 4/17 #nspoli#nowomensameoldpolitics#2020not1920
Respecting each of the three candidates, they got the points across they planned on… 5/17 #nspoli
Delorey as the senior minister with big portfolio experience, including Health supporting McNeil/Strang during the first wave of COVID-19… 6/17 #nspoli
Kousoulis playing up his leadership policies, LAE accomplishments, business background & province-wide understanding to offset his south end Halifax constituency… 7/17 #nspoli
Rankin as the generational change candidate, speaking about climate change and coming across as more confident than what I saw in the Halifax Chamber debate a few weeks ago… 8/17 #nspoli
The only disagreements tended to occur between Kousoulis and Rankin… 9/17 #nspoli
When Kousoulis talked about creating a Minister of Mental Health (a longstanding @TimHoustonNS policy, BTW), Rankin accused him of creating silos; with Delorey gently agreeing with Rankin… 10/17 #nspoli
Then Kousoulis and Rankin tangled over who had the better housing policy, who was first, who cared more about homelessness, who flip flopped … 11/17 #nspoli
Rankin also noted that Kousoulis believed in paving roads “without a business plan” - Kousoulis said his road work would save lives … 12/17 #nspoli
Kousoulis took credit for pushing McNeil to commission the Lahey report and said he was sad that it sat on a shelf (hey- who was the Minister then? – hint: rhymes with spankin’) … 13/17 #nspoli
So, what can we conclude from a debate where Kousoulis and Rankin mixed it up, while Delorey stayed out of the fray? … 14/17 #nspoli
Are Kousoulis and Rankin jockeying for 1st place and leaving Delorey alone to get the second choice from his supporters? … 15/17 #nspoli
Or are Kousoulis and Rankin fighting for 2nd place, to go up against Delorey, who some say is the front-runner? … 16/17 #nspoli
What do Liberals think? What do other Nova Scotians think? Is it too late for Jane Taber to run to spice things up and give these a guys a run for their money? :) 17/17 #nspoli

@Tim_Bousquet@thesmacleodshow For those who don’t have time, here’s your direct quote: “Income inequality is growing, worse than it’s ever been… decades and decades, if not centuries”
@Tim_Bousquet@thesmacleodshow My response: “That’s not true from a Canadian perspective…. We have a social safety net in this country which sets Canada, and has set Canada apart from the US, in terms of income inequality”
