FINEX President Francis Lim says the high unemployment rate "means that public confidence has not yet fully returned despite the efforts of the gov't to reopen the economy."
The PSA reported 4 million Filipinos were out of work in January, an increase from the 3.8 million recorded in October last year. However, the unemployment rate still stands at 8.7%. bit.ly/38qFFy2
FINEX says COVID-19 vaccination will help fast-track pandemic recovery: The earlier the inoculation takes place in massive degree, the better.
Lim says his "educated guess" is that at least 50% of the PH population should be inoculated as early as possible in order to bring back public confidence and open up the economy in a "meaningful degree"
Lim: I think that Bayanihan 1 and 2 did a lot in arresting the decline of the economy. That's why the private sector commended the gov't for those two stimulus packages.
Lim on possibility of escalating quarantine classification nationwide amid spike in COVID-19 cases: Hopefully not... I think going out or re-opening the economy is not the cause behind the surge.
Lim says he believes lax compliance with health protocols is the main driver behind the sharp increases logged in several areas.
Lim: A good way to stimulate the economy is to create labor-intensive local infrastructure projects. Having that in areas with high rates of joblessness will help do the trick.
