@jaketapper: "It's been more than two months since the US-backed Saudi blockade has allowed tankers, packed with the necessary fuel for food and supplies, to reach starving Yemenis [...] all of which goes against a United Nations agreement"
@nimaelbagir: "The humanitarian disaster kept from the outside world"
"Hundreds of stalled food supply trucks with no fuel to move. In a country in the grip of hunger, their cargo is spoiling in the hot sun."
"We are about to witness the terrible impact of this blockade."
@nimaelbagir: “Parents can’t afford to feed their children [or] bring them to the hospital”
"The reality [...] has outpaced the UN’s projections."
"The Saudi fuel blockade is biting [...] this busy hospital is running out of the vital fuel that keeps these generators running”
"Nearly 3 years ago the UN Security Council condemned the use of starvation as a method of warfare, demanding access to supplies necessary for food preparation, including water and fuel."
"That clearly hasn't happened."
"The numbers spiking beyond what they ever imagined."
"It's not as complicated as 'we need a peace deal, we need to negotiate that.'"
"It is as simple as pressuring the Saudi coalition to allow fuel in. That would instantly change people's lives"
"If your viewers are moved by this piece, then they have to make their voice heard."
Thank you to @RoKhanna for leading the fight against this war and doing everything you can to ensure an end to US participation in the horrific mass starvation of the Yemeni people.
Biden will announce an end to U.S. participation in offensive operations in the Saudi-led war on Yemen, per @JakeSullivan46
Advocates will need to ensure that this includes all unconstitutional support for the war.
Timeline of 6 years of advocacy below:
Weeks after the US joined the war, @RepDebDingell@RepJohnConyers began work on an NDAA amendment urging the US to evacuate Yemeni-Americans, faulting the "airstrikes conducted by Saudi Arabia and a no-fly zone imposed over Yemen by Saudi Arabia"
In September 2015, @RepTedLieu (with help from his lead staffer @CoreyJacobson) sent a letter to the Pentagon expressing concern over U.S. involvement in the war, calling the US to "cease aiding Coalition airstrikes"
