On the morning of 9 May, anti-war articles filled the homepage of the pro-Russian government outlet Lenta.ru. The articles were quickly removed from the website. Yegor Polyakov, the journalist responsible, stood by his decision to publish them.
Titles of the articles included:
“Zelensky turned out to be cooler than Putin”
“Vladimir Putin has turned into a pathetic, paranoid dictator”
“Russia is abandoning its soldiers’ corpses in Ukraine”
“The Russian elite turned out to be pathetically weak-willed”
The continuous actions of journalists like Polyakov will probably increase paranoia amongst Russian leadership and cause further crack downs on internal efforts to subvert political order in Russia.
