Hibernation Day #365 | What a glorious early Fall day. Crisp in the early morning, hot in the afternoon, cooled right down after sunset. This series of Tweet threads is a year old today, I think. It is quite possible I did a day # twice. I'm over it. 1/
A year ago I had to manage my kid's hockey team remotely because I was unwilling to provide medical information outside a medical context. In theory, I could not go to the games w/o presenting a vax passport. Masks were everywhere. Mandated. 2/ #bcpoli
A year later, no passports, no mask mandates, COVID is still with us but, according to the last stats released by the BC gov't, it is a disease of the vaccinated. The Covidians are big mad at Dr. Bonnie Henry not reimposing mask mandates in schools. 3/ #bcpoli
In fact, the dwindling chorus of the Covidians are big mad about pretty much every response to the virus which does not involve mandates, passports, coerced jabs and assorted NPIs. Wonderfully, they like to cite the fact that more people are dying this year than last. 4/ #bcpoli
In 2021 we were in the thrall of jabs and boosters and masks and passports. The "greater good" and all. The jabs would stop the virus. We're all a year older and most of us are a year wiser. None of it worked. 5/ #bcpoli
I'm sorry it didn't. Sorry that Pfizer sold us a dangerous pup, sorry that the PHO and regulators were so incompetent and incurious. Sorry that legacy media, to this day, is utterly unwilling to ask hard questions about jab effectiveness and harms. 6/ #bcpoli
One year on the NPI/jab/boost narrative looks like a Russian tank after a Ukrainian drone strike. But, like that droned tank, we have to remember that the lies and incompetence have actually killed and injured people. 7/ #bcpoli
The narrative was not killed by the emerging science showing that the jabs don't actually work and may be dangerous. It was killed last Christmas when Omicron infected a huge part of the population, jabbed and unjabbed. PHO had no solution. 8/
Jabs, passports, mandates, NPIs did nothing to stop Omicron. If anything, the jabbed seem more likely to get the damned thing. Mercifully, Omicron seems to have been a relatively mild form of the virus. 9/
So, where are we a year later after the most massive social disruption since WWII? Frankly, no further ahead. #CovidIsNotOver. However, the jabs look as though they frack people's immune systems leaving them more vulnerable. And they pretty clearly kill people. 9/
We have, largely, stopped putting frail old people on vents and shooting them up with Redesovir to hasten their demise. That's a plus. But early treatment protocols if they involve HCQ or ivermectin are still beyond the pale. 10/
Dr. Bonnie Henry still thinks COVID is primarily spread by droplets. #COVIDisAirborne is not really gaining any traction in BC. Nor is the idea that working on your immune health, losing a bit of weight and taking D being given airtime at Bonnie's pressers. 11/
Some of the mandates are gone, but HCWs still have to get jabbed to work despite there being no evidence that the jabs prevent infection and transmission. Our hospitals have contracted rather than expanded. People have been lost to mandates forever. They've move to Texas. 12/
One of the emergent themes in Hibernation is that we are all on our own. PHOs, the Healthcare system and our politicians have no clue what to do and have not for at least a year. We are coming into Fall respiratory illness season naked. 13/
Personally, I have stocked up and will continue to. I have my little Vespa to beat $2.39!!! a litre gas. I have the last volume of Chips Channon's Diaries -1150 pages - to read by the Hibernation fire. I have no great need to sit in crowded pubs paying $10 a pint. 14/
Most of all, I am blessed with Susan, Sam, Max and, at a distance, Simon. And Angus. We'll take care of ourselves and we'll help where needed. We'll be fine, you'll be fine...bring on the dancing girls promised last night.

And, of course the imbed did not work...Sigh. 16/16

Deutsche Bank and Credit Suisse are rumoured to be in "trouble". Both are "too big to fail" but they may also be "too big to bail". Combined with last week's crunch in the UK, the world financial system is looking very shakey. 1/
The problem is not Truss's tax cuts or DB/CS's dodgey loans to Chinese property developers, it is that years of zero interest rates have pumped far too much imaginary money into the world financial system. Reality is, once again, poking its nose in. 2/
Normal course banking is lending money against security in the form of real assets valued fairly. Arguably, that model was pretty much over when the banks were bailed out in 2008. What is a half built condo building in China worth when the "owners" stop paying their mortgages? 3/

Hibernation Day #366 | There was a significant co-relation between people wearing orange shirts and masking for this day of white virtue signalling on behalf of FN people we cannot quite get potable water to. A billion to Ukraine, no progress on water to FN. 1/
It's looking like Europe is going to have a very nasty winter. Gas and electricity prices are going nuts, energy intensive industries are shutting down unable to deal with a doubling of energy input costs. Which means unemployment on a mass scale. 2/
A lot of this is self inflicted Green idiocy. But it does not make it any less real. The Europeans will likely "print" their way out of the impending crisis, but that is not sustainable over anything more than this Winter. 3/

Hibernation Day #364 | Woke up to Fall but by noon we were back in Summer. Barely any masks on as I drove and shopped. Dr. Bonnie Henry told us that there was likely to be a COVID/flu surge in late Fall. The flu happens every year. 1/
Dr Henry and friends have rolled out a new graph on the health status by vaccination status. Now by age. 2/ Image
Now, my FOIA request for data on the now retired, "Health Outcomes by Vaccination status" told me that the data was no longer being collected. 3/ Image

Hibernation Day #338 | After the misty day yesterday, the temperature was down on a clear day today. Fall is in the air. Halloween has hit Value Village. Took Angus out for a late walk. Not a car or a person in sight. Long Weekend. 1/
I got a lovely note from a reader today. Apparently, Hibernation is a daily read for her and cheers her up. It is lovely to hear. As I said to her, this is where I try to figure stuff out. There is a lot to figure out. 2/
Has all the COVID stuff been orchestrated? It sure looks that way. From "two weeks to flatten the curve" to vax passports and mandates, PHOs in Canada have sung from the same hymnbook. WHO wrote the hymns? 3/

Hibernation Day #337 | There was a wonderful fog/mist which rolled in just as Susan and I were taking Angus for a walk. Cool, autumnal (a favourite word) and a reminder that Fall really is coming. 1/
There is still a bit of concern about COVID and its variants. Heath Canada has approved another jab, in the US, on the strength of tests involving eight mice, the FDA has approved a variant specific jab. Oh joy! 2/
3rd booster take up has stalled out at around 50% of the previously jabbed which means that the "up to date" are now a minority. (Which I think is a good thing because the 3rd jab seems to play Hell with people's immune systems.) 3/

Read through the Biden speech. He really should get better writers. But he may be sharing them with our own Justin Trudeau. Very much the same playbook. 1/
1) Define a group as "extremist", 2) suggest they pose a threat to "democracy", 3) pledge to defend "democracy". Trudeau's been doing it for a while, Biden ran the same play. 2/
It's what you do when you enjoy 35% approval and the evil Republicans, the MAGA Republicans enjoy a 6 point lead in the generic Mid-Term polls. Or, in Canada, when a chap with "unacceptable views" is about to become the leader of @CPC_HQ 3/
