It is neither brave nor honorable to come clean when you've been caught through indisputable evidence.
It is neither brave nor honest to give your allies a freebie under the cover of being deeply concerned and then doing nothing.
It is not being a man to hurt or take advantage of a vulnerable woman.
It is not being a man to hurt or take advantage of a child.
It is not being a man to issue a mushy sort-of-apology for worse-than-juvenile conduct without immediately seeking to make amends.
It is not being a man to find yourself incapable of even naming an ally's wrongdoing for fear that others might use it for momentary advantage.
Even a man who spends his all or nearly all of his adult life doing white collar work is significantly stronger, faster, quicker, and more durable than a woman.
Men are given these gifts by God not for our gratification or defense, but to protect those weaker than we.
A man who abuses his strength, or power, or position, to harm a woman, is not a man.
A man who abuses his strength, or power, or position, to harm a child, is not a man.
A man who will not call out such a man when the latter cannot even try to make amends is not a man.
We have made such a colossal wreck of our civilization that everything I just wrote is largely viewed as evil or weak, depending on one tribe or another's views.
I often say "we deserve" Trump, or some political outcome or election result. I stand by it. And maybe we deserve what we've made of our civilization.
But the weak do not deserve suffering, even for their share in society's failings. Suffering, if ever deserved, is only for deliberately chosen wrongs.
This is the essential message of two thousand years: That inherent in every person is unbreakable dignity, born of the moment of Creation.
That dignity cannot be traded away or made less. It inheres in the person, and it is from that dignity that every right flows.
We are careening back to a time when we assume the weak deserve what they get for being weak, and their dignity is a mirage of civilization.
Humans are not means to ends. Humans are the most precious, irreplaceable things on Earth. No thing or collection of things is worth even one.
We may deserve what's coming, but if we are to be worthy of our dignity, we can't forget that the weak don't.
