Someone asks me: what's your beef with Godswill Akpabio? In that question lies the apotheosis of the Nigerian tragedy. U say there is no security in d land. The Buharideen asks: what's ur beef with Buhari? Garbage in Lagos? What's your beef with Ambode? And patati. And patata.
The funeral of civics is d best thing to happen to d Nigerian political office holder. I don't give a rat's ass about Godswill Akpabio so I have no beef or chicken or grasscutter with him or any politician. I just don't do nice with them cos of their collective report card.
That anybody could have so easily forgotten what Akpabio's case says of our society is also part of the problem. This war that Nigeria has declared on memory, especially public memory, is a serious problem.
Akpabio's convoy was doing the do of d Nigerian big man in Abuja: driving recklessly and irresponsibly, overspeeding, floating above d law, posing a grave danger to d public. Predictably, they had an accident. Akpabio rushed to London at public expense.
Akpabio's convoy committed multiple infractions for that accident to happen. And there was that damage to an electric pole. That was Nigeria's chance to show that in little things, nobody is above d law. The fellow ought to return from London to fines and restitution.
Akpabio ought to have been ordered by an appropriate court to sweep the Eagle Square for 100 days of community service. He ought to have been ordered to go around Abuja high schools talking to students about the importance of being responsible on the road. I am dead serious.
Above all, he ought to have been made to pay for damage to public property. I wager that municipal authorities in Abuja just replaced d damaged pole (another inflated contract) for who in Nigeria would ask a whole former Gov and an important Senator to pay for what he damaged?
Some say: Akpabio was not driving. Nonsense. A Nigerian politician's convoy is an irresponsible world for which the over-inflated ego & over-bloated self of the Oga is wholly responsible. The convoy is a reflection of his persona, an expression of his power & desire.
