I was flattered to be profiled for my work with @TaxMarch and our team's efforts to fight for tax fairness and economic justice. But it took me a while today to figure out if, and how, I would share it. 1/

I was concerned with how people would react. Would I come across as boastful or egotistical if I posted a very positive piece of press on myself? What would people think? But if I didn’t share it, would that come across as hiding or being unhappy with it? 2/
All of my thoughts were focused on other people, and their perceptions of me. This isn’t a unique feeling or concern of course (which then leads down the path of feeling like a cliché, but I’ll save that for another time). 3/
Perceptions, especially of women, are steeped in bias. If I demonstrate pride, I’m full of myself. If I’m firm and direct, I’m bitchy. If I show compassion and warmth, I’m too emotional. 4/
Take my word for it, I’ve been called all of these things and more in professional settings.

Or you know what, ask @HillaryClinton how that turned out. 5/
But whatever I get called, I’m a woman, I’m a millennial, and I bring experience and ideas to the table that often don’t make the cut in the world of crafting policy – especially on tax and economic policy. 6/
The most important part of the article, for me, was the final paragraph: “I’m not an economist. I had never worked on tax policy. But I can do this.” That’s all true. I would have laughed if you told me two years ago I would lead a tax-focused organization. 7/
But I did what any woman knows she has to do to sit at the big boys table – I studied. I learned. I asked questions. I admitted to not knowing everything. 8/
Tax policy is the basis of every other policy area. If you care about women’s reproductive rights and access to health care, you care about taxes. The environment and fighting climate change? Tax policy. The growing wealth inequality in our country? Yep, taxes. 9/
War, trade deals, good paying jobs, health care, retirement security, child care, paid family, and medical leave. Tax policy decides what we as a country focus on. It sets our moral agenda. 10/
.@nancypelosi often says our federal budget is a statement of our values as a country. It’s where we decide what to prioritize and the type of country we want to be. And so whatever issue you care most about, you should care about taxes. 11/
We all should care that 83% of the tax cuts in the #TrumpTax go to the wealthiest 1% of Americans. And we should understand the implications that has for the things we value, and we care about. 12/
So, women – young women, especially – don't let econ & tax policy scare you off. We need you at the table. You don't have to be a policy wonk to join the fight. You don't have to know the intricacies of the pass through provision. Or what GILTI stands for. Take me as proof. 13/
In closing...yes, I'm sharing this profile, because I'm proud of it. And even more proud of the @TaxMarch team I work with every day and the fight we've led. But most importantly, if I can do it, so can you. 14/14
