@DLeonhardt The criticism of Oster’s piece wasn’t primarily concerned with whether Oster was understating the risk of severe COVID to unvaccinated children, it was that she seemed very unconcerned with the risk of COVID-positive children to immunocompromised or unvaccinated adults
@DLeonhardt The existence of a steep age gradient in COVID outcomes doesn’t vindicate Oster’s argument because that isn’t really the controversial aspect of what she has been advocating.
@DLeonhardt This whole individualistic approach that Oster takes in her Atlantic piece is wrong. It isn’t about whether a particular kid is at high risk, it’s about whether a particular kid who isn’t yet vaccinated can spread COVID to someone else who is high risk (newsflash: they can!)
