As America Tops 4 Million COVID Cases, the Cult of Donald Trump Has Become a Death Cult
America has now passed the milestone of 4 million COVID cases & we’re still arguing with doctors & epidemiologists about masks & school closures. I expected some of this,
2/22 because I literally wrote the book over 3 years ago on why so many Americans think they’re smarter than experts. What I did not expect is that this resolute and childish opposition to expertise would be hijacked by the president of the United States and an entire American
3/22 political party, and then turned into a suicide cult.
It did not take a lot of foresight to know, even before the coronavirus arrived, that the United States was leaving itself vulnerable to a crisis that would require the public to trust experts. We long ago became a
Donald Trump seems to think he deserves to be enshrined on Mount Rushmore because, as he's said, “I’m the greatest, most successful” president ever.
Trump’s Fourth of July festivities were a choreographed celebration of him, not America.
To make matters worse, the
2/29 lack of mask wearing & social distancing put supporters & employees at high risk for COVID19. And there was the risk of a wildfire from the fireworks as well. But nothing could keep Trump away from his faux coronation.
Trump’s phone calls to Russian President Vladimir Putin
3/29 & Turkish President Recep Erdogan have come to light in recent days. According to Carl Bernstein, Trump is heard pandering & bragging to these murderous, authoritarian thugs that he is “rich” & “a genius.” I guess that’s what Trump believes is the “Art of the Deal.”
I wanted to personally connect with you about the actions we’re taking to help you, our restaurant partners, and our drivers, to ensure the health and safety of everyone while supporting our entire community.
With dine-in down as much as 75%,
local restaurants need our support more than ever. As their partner, it is Grubhub’s responsibility to step up during this difficult time. So, we are deferring commission fees for impacted independent restaurants.
Delaying our revenue will increase the restaurant's cash flow,
allowing them to pay their employees and weather this difficult situation. We are also matching all promotions run by independent restaurants with our Smart Promotions feature, to help make their investments in growth twice as effective.
Someone on Quora asked “Why do some British people not like Donald Trump?” Nate White, an articulate and witty writer from England wrote the following response:
A few things spring to mind.
Trump lacks certain qualities
2/ which the British traditionally esteem.
For instance, he has no class, no charm, no coolness, no credibility, no compassion, no wit, no warmth, no wisdom, no subtlety, no sensitivity, no self-awareness, no humility, no honour and no grace – all qualities, funnily enough, with
3/ which his predecessor Mr. Obama was generously blessed.
So for us, the stark contrast does rather throw Trump’s limitations into embarrassingly sharp relief.
Plus, we like a laugh. And while Trump may be laughable, he has never once said anything wry, witty or even faintly

Whatever else it will be, Tuesday will be a relief. We will finally find out where we are in the surreal dystopia of the last two years. We will see, in a tangible way, what America now is.
These years have been
2/38 overwhelmed and saturated by a single figure with no political experience, who won almost 3 million fewer votes than his opponent, has had consistently lower approval numbers than any of his recent predecessors, and speaks and acts in ways no previous president ever has.
3/38 He has cast a staggering spell over a hefty segment of the population, and he has earned the intense loathing of the rest. And for these very reasons, it has been tortuously hard to see what is in front of our noses.
