This irony never stops amusing me: white colonialist/imperialist descendant whose ancestors colonized cultures around the globe whines about outsiders ruining his culture.
Trump’s father was from the German village of Kallstadt, Palatinate (by then part of the Kingdom of Bavaria in the German Empire). This region has a long history of being conquered and of submitting itself to monarchal and imperialist invaders. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palatinat…)
When self-righteous white people false virtue signal about abortion, it’s not about saving fetuses. It’s 100% about their need to appear righteous in the public eye. Abortion is a red-herring issue. Do not delight these needy virtue sponges with anything other than the following:
My advice is to simply state: “Those who cannot make room for babies at the border lack all moral authority to speak about babies in the womb,” with the hashtag #ConsistentLifeEthic. Don’t argue. Don’t bog down in existential details. Deny their moral high ground and move on.
They will desperately try to flip the narrative, and drag you into a losing dialogue. Do not indulge them. The best way to manage these hypocrites is to simply deny them the virtuous high ground they seek from the outset.
2/ Count One is Conspiracy to Commit an Offense Against the US. It is alleged that Russia, through its military intel agency (GRU) engaged in large-scale cyber intrusion operations and staged release of documents to interfere in the 2016 election.
3/ In paragraph 8, indictment alleges those charged “conspired with each other, *AND WITH PERSONS KNOWN AND UNKNOWN TO THE GRAND JURY*” —this implies there are *UNCHARGED CO-CONSPIRATORS*. Acts began in March, 2016. Releases began in June, 2016, continuing through November 2016.
David Apol, Acting Director & Gen Counsel for Office of Gov Ethics, sent a letter faulting Wilbur Ross for omissions & inaccurate statements submitted to OGE, citing 2 sales of Invesco stock after Ross certified at the beginning of November 2017 he complied w his ethics agreement
Invesco is the parent company of W.L. Ross & Co., private equity firm Ross founded. OGE says Ross later submitted a transaction report that included the Invesco sales dated December 21st, 2017. Bloomberg says the sales amounted to $20 million dollars. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
The OGE also faulted Ross for opening short positions that "appear to have been an ineffective attempt to remedy your actual or apparent failure to timely divest assets per your ethics agreement."
With all due respect, Bishop, I am obliged to tell you that you are in a state of grievous mortal sin, in violation of Catholic Social Teaching and the Gospel. Find your confessor and reconcile. @bishoptjt
The Church holds that LGBT people must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity, and every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. @bishoptjt brings scandal to the Church with his public spectacle showboat tweeting mocking homosexuals.
With the exception of the three-year period 1588-1591, early abortion was not prohibited by Catholic canon law until 1869.
While Columbus, Ohio is not in Jim Jordan’s grotesquely gerrymandered district, it is ironic that Stormy Daniels was arrested in Ohio as Jim Jordan faces intense scrutiny for covering up a sex abuse scandal of young people under his care.
(2014) Vladislav Surkov, The Hidden Author of Putinism: “The brilliance of this new type of authoritarianism is instead of oppressing opposition, as w 20th-century strains, it climbs inside all ideologies & movements, exploiting & rendering them absurd.“ theatlantic.com/international/…
Natan Dubovitsky is the pseudonym of Vladislav Surkov. Here is a link to his novel, published in November 2017. I have not read it yet, for clues about Russian interference in US democracy. inpatientpress.com/blog/2017/5/3/…
Over the past 9 years, Vladislav Surkov has been publishing fiction under an alias. Desperate for answers, commentators are trying hard to find some meaning in his writing in all of the madness. psmag.com/social-justice…
From @JonDavidPettit: As for NATO, the main reason that Germany’s military is weak is their militaristic predisposition. As long as the US was overseeing their military during the Cold War, they were permitted to possess second only to Uncle Sam, Europe’s best conventional army.
After reunification, it was by design that West Germany demobilized & United Germany remained in NATO (along w US military stationed there), to ensure Europe a peaceful Germany. Germany also benefited with security guarantees from NATO. It was and still is a win-win.
For example, if Germany were to go back to their dark days, they would want back Prussia, which most was ceded to Poland. Germany and Russia could divide up Poland again.
The Office of the US Trade Representative said July 10 that it had come up with a list of $200 billion worth of goods on which it would charge a new 10% tax. Problem is, much of it will tax US fish products sent to China for processing. Trump is a moron. qz.com/1325584/the-ne…
I was born between Schirmeck and Vorbruck, south of Fuenfbrunnen, and west of Dachau Concentration Camps✡️, during the peak of the Cold War. My father was stationed in Germany, and it was his job at that time to assist NATO with building missiles to counter the Soviet threat.
Born just two decades after the catastrophic ruin wrought by WWII in Europe, I have always been amazed by the economic prosperity of Europe. My father often reminded me that it was NATO which carved out that prosperity, over fascism’s bones.
He also instilled in me, and not from hysteria or paranoia, but from his time in Korea, Vietnam, and his service to NATO, that the single threat to Western democracy and to European prosperity is the Kremlin menace. history.com/news/5-cold-wa…
103/ BREAKING: A criminal complaint was unsealed today in DC charging a Russian national with conspiracy to act as an agent of the Russian Federation within the US without prior notification to the Attorney General. justice.gov/opa/pr/russian…
104/ The announcement was made by Assistant Attorney General for National Security John C. Demers, U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jessie K. Liu, and Nancy McNamara, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office.
Get ready for the onslaught of Kremlin propaganda trolls and bots with the Trump-Putin Summit. This is from last year: (June 2017) Pro-Putin bots are dominating Russian political talk on Twitter washingtonpost.com/world/europe/p…
The Kremlin troll-bots are getting more sophisticated.
The Kremlin troll-bots have clearly defined tasks.
As a Catholic, I reject the specious argument put forth by @monacharenEPPC that Amy Coney’s critics are anti-Catholic. Her critics are anti-fundamentalists, which is a sound legal basis to oppose any SCOTUS nominee.
I also add that the positions taken by @monacharenEPPC in her new book, ‘Sex Matters: How Modern Feminism Lost Touch with Science, Love, and Common Sense’, demonstrate Mona’s clear disengagement from the reality that it is the GOP which has abandoned the family.
It is the GOP which denies healthcare to women & children. It is the GOP which defunded HeadStart. It is the GOP which seeks to devalue communities of local public schools. It is the GOP which ignores Ladauto Si. It is the GOP separating families at the border. #WhyILeftTheGOP
1/ In 1215, Runnymede, England, in a water-meadow on the south bank of the River Thames, the reviled King John was forced at swordpoint to grant freedoms to his people, and the Magna Carta was born. That sword was later used to found the US, steeped in the blood of its traitors.
2/ The US is not a monarchy. Democracy, by its nature, rejects nepotism. Yet, the true lesson of the Magna Carta’s history is that rights have to be fought for and that the roots of our democracy are blood-soaked.
3/ We do not base our democracy on Plato’s Republic or upon Machiavelli’s Discourses, but instead on the Magna Carta, which served as the basis for the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
I send this missive on the eve of our big campaign. Days long, heat oppressive, yet we push forward—the enemy distracted by inane ramblings of their leader, who suffers from imaginary, yet debilitating bone spur disease. Prevail, we must!
@realDonaldTrump “We assess Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered an influence campaign in 2016 aimed at the US presidential election. Russia's goals were to undermine public faith in the US democratic process, denigrate Secretary Clinton, and harm her electability and potential presidency.”
@realDonaldTrump ”We further assess Putin and the Russian Government developed a clear preference for President-elect Trump.”
127 days until midterm election day. Have you registered your friends, family and neighbors to vote? Is there a local campaign for which you can volunteer to phone bank and canvass? #BlueWave2018
The time has come for us to get on message. We have the upper hand. The GOP/Trump draconian policies, coupled with their corruption baggage & fake bot following, is not a toilet drain we should swirl 24/7. Let’s message our awesome lineup & platform in the various jurisdictions!
I have seen this xenophobic Kremlin talking point a few times now. It is pure race-baiting and it unnecessarily pits brown people against black people. This is a tactic employed by white plantation masters, who manipulated poor whites against blacks. @marklutchman
This is López Obrador, who just won Mexico’s election, in January 2018, near the Gulf of Mexico in the port of Veracruz. “I’m standing here waiting for the Russian submarine,” he says. “It will be bringing me Moscow’s gold.”
Obrador’s cabinet will include Irma Eréndira, tasked w leading the fight against corruption. She is married to John Ackerman, a professor and frequent contributor to Russia Today, Moscow’s propaganda machine (now registered as a “foreign agent” w the US). washingtonpost.com/news/democracy…
1/ This case demonstrates the stark difference between jurists who view the constitution as a safeguard of democracy via “positive rights” versus jurists who view the constitution as merely a shield for “negative rights.”
2/ Most concerning is this court’s grotesque distortion of Brown v Board of Ed, in which this court states that the government has no duty to educate its citizenry. The court also ignores that denial of an education IS a liberty interest.
3/ This court does not consider education to be an “intrinsic necessity of a free society.” 😳This court’s reasoning is the greatest threat to our democracy: there are theocratic/wealthy elites who, literally, want to maintain their power & control by full deprivation of rights.
