So my department looks like they are going to fuck over the entirety of my cohort, minus the one person who (by sacrificing her life for two years, and just being the kind of person who could do it) is gonna graduate on time.
I have traveled to do field work and get primary data on a language that is going to have zero native speakers in about ten years. The thing everyone says they care so much about. The assistance I have gotten from the department for this work is $0.00.
If I can't wrastle up alternative funding for the next year I don't know how I'll finish my PhD. My research has not aligned with a grant, so I don't have that. People say they care about documentation but it is not funded at all. And I've been told bluntly probably no TAship.
I'm happy to double down on material politics as being higher priority than social politics.
If you unite around and achieve eradicating poverty, you get rid of a lot of the problems of prejudice for free, because a big part of social prejudice is pushing groups of people into poverty and the precarity of the lower classes.
It doesn't solve everything - it is possible to have a classless society that still has bigotries along race, gender, sexuality, etc, and there would still be work to do! But it removes a very significant tool oppression called poverty.
