A short THREAD about team building and the folly of possibly spending Multi Millions on Jadon Sancho, as the papers would have us believe we are trying to do. I’ll start with a few FACTS. First FACT. Ole was quoted as saying he was happy with his forward options as lukaku left.
The forwards he had in mind were Martial, Rashford and even Lingard as he often used him as a number 10. Then Greenwood coming through. Since then he’s decided that Rashford isn’t good enough as a 9. Lingard obviously wouldn’t make a 9. The only half decent one is Martial.
This bits only an opinion, but Greenwood to me isn’t strong enough yet to play 9 regularly, only time will tell if he ever is, despite the fact that he CAN strike a ball. All of this so far is backed up by the FACT that we’ve loaned Ighalo till the end of the season.
Lots of reds I hear saying”we need a creative midfield player”. This is often followed by a name and an amount of assists, as if to say more assists are required. If you follow this THREAD you’ll see an interesting alternative view. #manutd#MUFC@samuelluckhurst@markgoldbridge
To sign a player and expect him to become the highest assister in the league would surely be expecting too much. Even if we did sign a player who went to the top of the assist league, what would that mean for us ? How many extra goals could we get from suddenly having the top man
In each of the last two seasons the highest premier league midfield player on the list is Eriksen of Spurs, outside of City and Liverpool players. I’ll come to them later. Eriksen has 10 and 12 assists in the last two seasons. Don’t forget that he swings free kicks and corners in
Ryan Giggs was heavily critical of Anthony Martial after the Everton game on Sunday. Saying he “looks” lethargic, not bothered, not running, working or trying. This THREAD will look at these and other criticisms and show that Ryan was wrong on most counts. #MNF@TonyCascarino62
Ryan also said that Martial was not holding the ball up, not getting across the front post, not offering anything defensively and not offering anything offensively. These are particularly scathing words. Tony Cascarino also weighed in today with harsh words, calling Martial lazy.
Cascarino added that Martial should take a leaf out of Dan James’s book. You would expect Cascarino, a former striker himself, to understand the difference between a striker and a winger. A winger has to track back with full backs and get forward again. His work is obvious.
