Smile #HIStoryStreamingParty
"Smile" is based on the soundtrack for Charlie Chaplin's 1936 movie Modern Times. Chaplin composed the music, & John Turner / Geoffrey Parsons added lyrics in 1954. Michael cited "Smile" as his favourite song... was scheduled to be released as the seventh and final single but it was cancelled at the last minute and only a few copies, mostly promos, went into circulation making it one of the rarest and most collectible of all of Michael’s.
It’s lyrics, based on lines and themes from the film, the singer is telling the listener to cheer up and that there is always a bright tomorrow, just as long as they smile. Given how introspective and autobiographical this album is, “Smile” bookends the album perfectly..

HIStory #HIStoryStreamingParty
Containing historical compositions & historical audio quotes, dispersed throughout the track included quotes from Michael in 1970, samples "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" & "The Great Gate of Kiev" (on the original pressing)
With lyrics containing "He got kicked in the back" & "Keep daring to motivate" Michael Jackson reflects on his recent events then creates an anthem "Every day create your history" "Every path you take you're leaving your legacy"

A bold statement.
Audio quotes sampled: "Charles Lindbergh Report", "Robert Kennedy Eulogy", "Farewell to Baseball", "I Have a Dream". The song suggests we should all live our life right, consider what we're making of ourselves, it’s similar in lyrical style...

My favorite Michael Jackson track now, 2 BAD #HIStoryStreamingParty

2 Bad (Released as part of Ghosts from his follow up Remix Album “Blood On The Dancefloor: History In The Mix”)...
“2 Bad” deals with themes of alienation and judgement. Self declaring at the intro as the King Of Pop, the song confronts his accusers, his gritty voice raises its volume and declares “You’re disgustin’ me !"...
This is in direct response to people who have harmed him, people who have extorted money from him, even people who simply judge him..

Tabloid Junkie #HIStoryStreamingParty
Another of my most favourite Michael Jackson tracks. New Jack Swing meets Funk Pop with lyrics that pertain to media bias and negative coverage of about his personal life...
Similar in lyrical style to the amazing “Leave Me Alone” from the 80’s and jaw dropping “Why You Wanna Trip On Me” from the early 90s "Tabloid Junkie" opens simply with “In the News today from the strange and weird fact-file, Singer Michael Jackson Sleeps in an oxygen chamber…”
Ultimately, he’s stating that we shouldn’t believe everything we read, the media is just making money from fake news stories. This was before the Internet had evolved into the cesspit it is today, 11 years before twitter even started lol!

Childhood is a plea at large to recognise the pressures he faced as a child and his inability to lead a normal life... #HIStoryStreamingParty
A ballad, the B Side accompanied the aggressive Scream debut single. The song references his difficult years as a kid with a strict father combined with the pressures of being world-famous from such a young age as the lead singer of The Jackson 5..
Michael has alleged that he and his siblings were physically and emotionally abused by their father through rehearsals including whippings and derogatory name calling. This abuse combined with media ‘bullying’ affected him throughout his life...

The music video, directed by Wayne Isham is homage to “Daybreak”, a painting by Maxfield Parrish in 1922. Daybreak is regarded as the most popular art print of the 20th century, based on number of prints made (one for every four American homes).
According to the National Museum of American Illustration, it has outsold Andy Warhol's Campbell's Soup Cans and Da Vinci's Last Supper. It is still in print.

Money #HIStoryStreamingParty
A mid-tempo new jack swing/funk number denouncing greed & the lust for money. Another response to the blackmail he suffered in the early 90s. A simple song where Michael speaks his verses & sings the chorus...
..It's an interesting song with a simple production. The beat is catchy, even if you’re not a #MichaelJackson fan. Musically it’s a little bland but considering this is an introspective album it’s a solid representation to what was going on in his life at the time.
The first time I heard Money, in 1995 - I knew I'd heard that sound before but I couldn't remember. I thought I was going crazy every time I heard it because I always seemed to have another song in my head.

D.S. #HIStoryStreamingParty
The lyrics are interpreted as an attack on Santa Barbara County District Attorney Tom Sneddon, whose name is similar in the song, Dom Sheldon. Sneddon controlled the investigation into Jackson... 1993. Jackson was angered by the allegations, his perception of being mistreated by the police and media, and the negative effect on his health. The allegations of 2003 resulted in a long trial two years later...
...Sneddon was the lead investigator again, as well as the trial prosecutor. The trial ended with Jackson being acquitted on all counts. The two investigations controlled by Sneddon drew complaints that he was motivated by a "vendetta" against Jackson.

Earth Song #HIStoryStreamingParty
No introduction required. Here's Michael on it.. 👇
"I remember writing Earth Song when I was in Austria, in a hotel. And I was feeling so much pain and so much suffering of the plight of the Planet Earth...
...And for me, this is Earth's Song, because I think nature is trying so hard to compensate for man's mismanagement of the Earth. And with the ecological unbalance going on, and a lot of the problems in the environment, I think earth feels the pain, and she has wounds,...

Listen, I've got problems of my own
Flashin' cameras, taps on my phone
Even in my home I ain't safe as I should be
Things always missin'
Maybe it could be my friends
They ain't friends if they robbin' me
Stoppin' me from makin' a profit, see
Apology shallow like the ocean
I guess I'll resort to gun totin'
If I was dead broke and smokin'
I'd probably be by my lonesome
I'm a killer nigga I ain't jokin'
Endo smoke got me choked and I'm hopin'
The fool comes slippin'
So I could blow'em open
This time around
I changed up my flow
Got rid of the rocks
Got pits by the door
I've raised other peoples to watch my back
Stay away from strangers
So I won't slack
And I know my nigga Mike like that!

Stranger In Moscow (6th Single). Stranger in Moscow is a response to events in Michael’s personal life. Although never charged with a crime, and later vindicated, Michael was subject to intense media scrutiny. #HIStoryStreamingParty @MJChartData…
A ballad about a man merely trying to have his voice heard while by being crucified by the press. Complains about the coverage & media included using sensational headlines implied guilt, false stories of alleged criminal activity and leaked police material for money,
deliberately using unflattering pictures of Michael and having no objectivity.
