Yes, you should follow me. I eat meat, lots of it. I'm your usual magician, dreadhead, web developer French expatriate.

Let's unpack that with a thread, shall we?

1) We don't torture animals, we kill them. Sometimes, some are tortured, but eating meat does NOT mean condoning those despicable practices. It just means we chose to eat animals as a way of sustaining our own life. Nothing new here.

2) This animal agriculture killing the planet meme is getting old. Stop cherry-picking the data. Here's a graph from @GrassBased, and of course, feel free to dig into the original data.

3) Your system of values IS NOT UNIVERSAL. Just because it makes sense to you that cows and insects and humans have the very same right to life does not mean you have to push your belief as a universal truth.

4) Plant-based agriculture kills a whole lot too. So playing the casualties count game is only a way to try to feel good about yourself because you cannot accept the reality: food is death, wherever it comes from.
Yes, you might kill less. Does that really make you feel superior?

5) We do give a fuck about the environment. Just not with the same premises as you. The environmental degradation is a complex problem with many causes, your smartphone included. Blaming meat production is intellectual laziness to confirm your own bias.

6) Veganism is a capitalist industrial dream. Your reality is boxed products, ultra-processed fake foods that are completely disconnected from nature, and raw vegan Instagram models that act as poster boys and girls for the vegan revolution.

7) You're binging on vegan ice-cream provided by Ben&Jerry's, are thrilled to eat an impossible burger, to buy soy-based fake meats or to drink that Soylent powder. You supplement with factory-produced synthetic B12 or get spirulina from halfway across the globe

8) Meanwhile, you're getting bombarded by advertising from big corporation promising you the launch of super ethical fake foods and you're thrilled by it.

You're making the corporations that made you sick even richer, and you'll get sicker as a result.

9) Maybe you've read Greger and McDougall, so you're pretty sure you know "how not to die", and you have the "starch solution" to your weight problems.

All the while you're ignoring all of the health issues that are slowly creeping as a result of your dietary choice.

10) Meanwhile, I eat just unprocessed, local, grass-fed meat, I have stopped all industrial foods, and don't buy anything imported other than coffee, and I'm supposed to be the monster who kills the planet?

Come on, be serious. The world is not as simple as you think it is.
