There's a seat open on the 5th Circuit, and judicial conservatives are openly campaigning against the rumored frontrunner, Judge Sul Ozerden. #AppellateTwitter #CA5

Judge Ozerden, a Stanford Law graduate and Navy veteran, is a 2007 Bush appointee to the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Mississippi. He is the first Turkish-American appointed to the federal trial bench.
Conservatives involved in judicial selection and in the public interest world have an array of objections to his elevation to the 5th Circuit. Among them:
A 2012 decision in which he turned back a challenge to the ACA's contraception mandate.

And a 2009 decision in which he drew from abortion case law in allowing a civil rights lawsuit against a police officer to proceed.

Judge Ozerden has a supporter in Mississippi Sen. Roger Wicker, who dismisses these charges as a smear campaign and vouches for the judge's conservative bona fides.
