In 2010, Salima Memcha’s husband was killed in an alleged extrajudicial execution. She then joined, the Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM).

Because of her activism, security personnel had vandalised Salima’s house and threatened her. She is not the only EEVFAM member to face reprisals this year.

We partnered with EEVFAM to launch the #BRAVE campaign to protect activists in Manipur and we managed some major wins!

The Chief Minister declared that attacks against activists would not be tolerated. Some local security personnel also called Salima and informally apologized to her!

But we need to hold those responsible to account. To raise awareness about this, Salima visited Germany accompanied by Monika Khangembam, another activist.

Amnesty International Germany organised meeting with parliamentarians in Germany. The message from was Germany was unanimous. Those responsible for these attacks must held to account!

Due to the international pressure. When Salima returned, local authorities again called her in an attempt at reconciliation. But she was steadfast in her quest for accountability.

We need to keep the pressure up. Click the link to stand with Salima!
