Thread: Been a dedicated #bicycle commuter for years in Minnesota. This is how I prepare for -25F with wind chills around -50F...
Step 1: All merino base layer with light wool socks and silk liner gloves.
Step 2: All synthetic long underwear over the base layer with a wool/fleece blend liner glove over the silk pair.
Step 3: fleece quarter zip top with soft shell style cycling pants (with reflective piping on back).
Step 4: light windbreaker jacket, ski goggles, cold weather mittens, and thin merino wool scarf thingie. Hand and toe warmers plus beeswax on tip of nose and exposed cheeks.
Footwear: thin wool base layer sock followed by thick expedition weight sock, toe warmers and winter boots rated to -40. I was warm when I got home tonight (-42 windchill).
Enjoy the ride and be safe! 🚲
