Just landed in Miami & safe- @WPLGLocal10 correspondent Cody Weddle, released from 12-hr #Venezuela counterintelligence detention, deported with just that suitcase & clothing he’s wearing ...

“I thought either they would let me go and I can stay in Caracas... or I will be deported.. or maybe I remain here who-knows-how- long as some type pf political token” - @coweddle on what he was thinking in Venezuela detention with a ski mask over his face ...
@WPLGLocal10
Before releasing him, one captor told Cody he would “be the journalist”, turned the camera on him:
“...They wanted me to say things, political things... They might release some type of edited version to make it look like I said something I really didn’t say...”
@WPLGLocal10
The suitcase and those clothes are all he has with him (he had to buy the shirt at the airport in Caracas). He believes Venezuela counterintelligence returned his phone, computer etc they had confiscated - but won’t be sure until he unpacks
@WPLGLocal10
One of the first things Cody did when he left Miami Int’l with a @WPLGLocal10 crew? He called his mom.
Good move, Cody! Always call your mom. #LifeLesson
