Some folks on my timeline are sharing this piece from @TheAtlantic (written by a former Bush speechwriter) as political strategy to fight fascism. I'd like to intervene: #AbolishBorders #NoBorders theatlantic.com/magazine/archi…

This is "the lesser of two evils" logic taken to the extreme. It's dangerous, and it's the exact opposite of the kind of strategy we should be employing right now #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

There's a lot of victim blaming in this logic. Hillary Clinton blaming lax immigration policy for the rise of the white nationalism (opening example) would have us blame border crossers for anti-immigrant rhetoric and violence...

not white nationalists and their willing accomplices throughout European and American governments. This is a stunning evasion of accountability #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

Most of the immigrants targeted by white nationalism--from across Africa, Central America, and the Middle East--are fleeing US/European imperialism in one form or another, be it war, climate change, or the extraction of resources by multinational corps. #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

If anything, we should be discussing abolishing borders as reparations for these generations of imperialist harm, instead of coming up with new ways to protect imperial powers from the consequences of their actions, which is what this piece argues #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

Even the piece's central example about declining mining fatalities blames the exploitation of immigrants for bad labor practices. #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

If undocumented people (re: Black, Brown, indigenous, Muslim, poor people) are being mistreated by their employers, the answer isn't banning them from entering the country, it's expanding worker power and labor protections to cover them #AbolishBorders #NoBorders

Bottom line: We need to fight fascism by pushing centrists--through fearless pressure and radical demands--further to the left, not further to the right, as this piece offers #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

Soft racism is not the antidote to racism, anti-racism is. Soft fascism is not the antidote to fascism. Demilitarization, open borders, a robust public sector, and a massive expansion of human rights are. #NoBorders #AbolishBorders

I've been really disappointed in @TheAtlantic's roster of pro-fascist pieces this month. I like this piece from 2015 much better: theatlantic.com/business/archi…
