Let’s start with this classic. Still pretty amazing after all this time… #myoldharddrive

What happened to Robin Schlotz? All I could find was this. The source site is offline but it certainly sounds like it could be true. #myoldharddrive

Now for a few ads which feature operatic music. I have not found them on youtube so I uploaded them for you. The first one is for Fiat Tipo and they actually wrote Italian lyrics for it. #myoldharddrive

Pirelli also used opera music. Quite a nice double play on the “never sleep” of Nessun Dorma and the “gripping stuff” of the tires and the aria. #myoldharddrive

And Rossini is always good for an old spaghetti sauce commercial. #myoldharddrive

And Ragu it is again. Of course someone had to butcher La donne è mobile for this… #myoldharddrive

(Every time someone uses La donna è mobile in a commercial a Verdi fan converts to Wagner)

All the Great Operas in 10 Minutes. #myoldharddrive

Now for sth a little more serious. This movie from 2005 is about the scandal that surrounded the premiere of the Rite of Spring in 1913 #myoldharddrive

On the same piece: Bernstein in rehearsal for the Rite of Spring. This really has changed (or rather: shaped) my perception of the piece forever. If you have 2 minutes to spare listen to how he talks about the opening (starting at 6:05). #myoldharddrive

Servicetweet ;-) #myoldharddrive

While I am waiting for an upload to youtube here’s one of the worst opera commercials I have found. Cio Cio San is going to choke on a bowl of Rice Krispies at the end of this…
#myoldharddrive

There are actually a few more Raguletto pasta sauce ads out there: #Trovatore #anotherVerdifanConverted

I am on a reeeeaaaallly slow internet connection right now, so bear with me. This ad could not be more wrong about opera #notmyoldharddrive

When Brigitte Hamann published her groundbreaking biography of Winifred Wagner the German newsmagazine Spiegel produced this documentary about her and the Bayreuth connection with the Third Reich. This version is the dubbed BBC one. #myoldharddrive

Another Gem I did not find on youtube. This 1961 Don Giovanni (German) directed by Ferenc Fricsay with Fischer-Dieskau, Grümmer, Berry, Köth, Greindl, you name them. This is a gold standard example of how they used to do opera back then #myoldharddrive
