To the U.S. Senators who voted to revoke the #FakeTrumpEmergency: WELL DONE! Today’s bipartisan vote proves there are issues we can all agree on. Preventing the president from illegally usurping the powers of Congress is one of them.
The National Emergencies Act is not a tool for @POTUS to use to override Congress's constitutional power of the purse. Allowing the #FakeTrumpEmergency to stand would violate the system of checks and balances the Founders instituted to protect our country from tyranny.
Protect Democracy built a cross-partisan legal team to file a lawsuit to block the #FakeTrumpEmergency on behalf of the County of El Paso, TX, and @BNHR. More information on our lawsuit is here: protectdemocracy.org/national-emerg…
Thanks to @SenSchumer, @SenatorTomUdall, @MartinHeinrich, @SenKamalaHarris, @SenCortezMasto and @SenJeffMerkley for leading the charge on the Senate vote to end the #FakeTrumpEmergency and stop this illegal power grab.
Thanks also to Republicans who put the Constitution above party: @SenAlexander @RoyBlunt @SenatorWicker @SenatorCollins @lisamurkowski @RandPaul @SenMikeLee @SenToomey @senrobportman @JerryMoran @marcorubio @SenatorRomney
