Victims of the deadly #TubbsFire in 2017 nervous their private data could become vulnerable- FEMA says it “overshared” personal banking info of 2.5 million disaster survivors w/a contractor @FOX40
The #CoffeyPark neighborhood in Santa Rosa continuing to recover/rebuild after the 2017 wildfires. One community leader tells me FEMA releasing personal data to contractor is “just one more thing” to worry about @FOX40
A FEMA rep who didn’t wanna be identified tells me anyone who used the agency’s Transitional Sheltering Assistance program was susceptible to their personal info being shared with an unnamed contractor (FEMA won’t say which contractor). Rep told me FEMA started gathering data in
2008, and would automatically deposit aid money into survivors’ bank accounts. Hence why FEMA kept/shared banking info for survivors. More recently, however, that practice has changed. Still FEMA mistakenly shared that personal info @FOX40
“It’s just another thing. It’s the old saying from Rocky, it’s not how many times you get knocked down. It’s how many times you get back up. We’ve been knocked down so many times we’ve lost count.” -Jeff Okrepkie, Tubbs Fire Survivor after FEMA data breach @FOX40
