“NOW I’M NOT SAYING JOHN WILKES-BOOTH WAS RIGHT. I’M NOT SAYING HE SHOULD’VE DONE IT... BUT I UNDERSTAND.”
Obviously I *don’t* understand what it’s like to be an American citizen of color who is told to go back to their country by a racist. But the rage I feel towards @realDonaldTrump and his enablers in the @GOP is unlike anything I’ve ever felt.
I reviled George W. Bush as President. His administration did terrible things. But I didn’t feel that he was a terrible person. I didn’t look forward to the end of his existence.
Trump triggers – in his supporters and his opponents – a desire for violence.
In a long list of execrable qualities, that is very near the top.
Look, I want @realDonaldTrump to die of natural causes – or, at least, as naturally as one can die when one doesn’t exercise and one’s diet consists of fried chicken and sleeves of Oreos.
But while he’s alive, I want him to be punished for who he is and what he’s done.
For every insult to humanity, for all the damage to the planet, and hell, for making me feel this way.
Same for @VP, @IvankaTrump, @jaredkushner, @DonaldJTrumpJr, @senatemajldr, @DevinNunes, @Jim_Jordan, @mattgaetz, @BetsyDeVosED,
@LindseyGrahamSC, @SHSanders45 and all the rest.
The fact that SDNY has (for now) shut down its investigation of the Trump Organization is disheartening. The country continues to warp itself around Trump’s distorted, immoral shape. Laws aren’t enforced. Vile actions increasingly have no consequences. cnn.com/2019/07/12/pol…
I’m tired of feeling rage, and I’m a privileged white guy. This has been relatively easy for me personally!
But I want the moral arc of the universe to start bending up again.
The 2020 election is a big firewall. Decent people must rally around decency. There are more of us.
