The true absurdity and horror of this situation is getting lost. Robert Mueller is a lifelong Republican with a sterling reputation. He wrote an unbiased report that outlines foreign interference and blatant crimes. Republicans are eviscerating themselves on live TV.
Media coverage has done a disservice as its pushed a man-on-man showdown between Mueller and Trump. It never was. Mueller is the last of a dying breed. He's a creature of duty. He did his job and actually didn't go far enough because of duty. This is just...insane.
Instead of just addressing the report and standing by the decision not to prosecute, Republicans are trying to destroy the reputation of a man who served as a principle actor for their party for years and years and years.
This Republican Party is essentially saying the past Republicans, the Reagan/Bush I/Bush II Republicans, weren't trustworthy, that they weren't politically correct. They're cannibalizing their own history in realtime.
Trump successfully implanted the idea of the Deep State. Republicans right now are competing for attention from propaganda channels, including FOX News, and trying to prove they can carry the conspiracy water. We're diving headfirst into an abyss.
These Republicans are saying national security doesn't matter, government integrity doesn't matter, loyalty doesn't matter - they're saying that victory is the only thing that matters and that, I'm sorry to say, is the textbook definition of fascism.
