Mueller says the OSC decided not to subpoena Pres. Trump in the interests of expediting the conclusion of investigation. "If we did subpoena the president, he would fight the subpoena and we would be in the midst of the investigation for a substantial period of time."

MUELLER: "We understood we could subpoena the president."

MALONEY: Asks if Mueller "flinched." "But, sir, you don't strike me as the kind of guy who flinches."

MUELLER: "I hope not."

MUELLER: "Theres a balance. In other words, how much evidence that you have that would satisfy the last element against how much time are you willing to spend in the courts litigating the interview with the president."

DEMINGS: Didn't your investigation uncover evidence that the president did in fact have advanced knowledge of public releases of emails damaging to his opponent [by Wikileaks?]

MUELLER: "I can't get into that area."

KRISHNAMOORTHI: "Were the president's personal finances outside the purview of your investigation?"

MUELLER: "I'm not going to get into that."

KRISHNAMOORTHI: "Were you instructed by anyone not to investigate the president's personal finances?"

MUELLER: "No."
