As we mourn our neighbors in #ElPaso, we cannot betray them, humanity or our future by remaining silent about the need for a “revolution of values.” This nation, in policy and posture, must move from being a thing-power-money oriented society to being a people oriented society.

We must be truthful and vigilant about the grave injustices undergirded by racism, white nationalism, xenophobia, white supremacy and other manifestations of hate, discrimination and the violent assertion of privilege + prejudice + power.

We must vote and fill our legislative halls with leaders who will elevate our national and global discourse; seek to rid our nation of the systemic and overt racism that has haunted this land for hundreds of years; and work for justice, equity and a more humane America and world.

With the “fierce urgency of now,” we must examine and instruct each other about the authentic history of this nation; and embrace the innate, robust value of our fellow human beings who are indigenous, immigrants, descendants of immigrants and descendants of enslaved Africans.

We are not defeated. We are not over.

We are living far below humanity’s capacity to dwell together as a family in our World House.

If we want to, we can facilitate a revolution of values.

If you don’t want to, why?

And is your “why” worth our nonexistence?
