If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I’m a gun owner.

You also know that I support common sense legislation to help keep this kind of crap from happening again.

This topic always turns my mentions into a flaming dumpster fire, but let’s dive in, shall we?

Enough. We had THREE mass shootings in the United States YESTERDAY.

Sandy Hook should have been a red line, but it wasn’t. Stoneman Douglas should have been a red line. It wasn’t.

What the hell is wrong with us? What kind of nation sits on their hands while children die?

Look. I like guns. I own guns. There’s about a 95% chance that I’m alive today because I happened to be carrying a gun one day.

I’ve also trained for a good portion of my life to use those guns.

None of that matters right now. Something has to give.

My children do active shooter drills at school every month. I’m sure many of yours do too.

What. The. Hell. Is. Wrong. With. Us.

If Congress can’t cancel their recess and put together some bipartisan legislation to work towards fixing this problem immediately, something besides the President is fundamentally broken in this country.

5/9

With that being said, there’s not a one size fits all fix for this problem.

Shooters are primarily young, white males with conservative backgrounds, but that’s not always the case.

Again. That doesn’t matter today. Results are what matters.

There is no reason that legislation shouldn’t be voted on this week:

- Fix the gun show loophole
- Ban high-capacity (over 10 rounds) magazines for civilian purchase
- Mandatory 72 hour waiting period for purchase of firearms — this would allow for better background checks

If we can send the military to the border to combat a manufactured invasion, but we can’t take common sense steps to keep our citizens safe from a much more serious threat, something is fundamentally broken in America.

8/9

This won’t solve all of our problems, but it’s a start.

You will undoubtedly notice that I’m not calling for an assault weapons ban. I think that’s something we should work towards, but let’s be real; it’s never going to happen w/ a GOP POTUS, and we need results now. <end>
