A few weeks ago I shared hilarious sketches from @arturocastro85's new show #Alternatino, to my newsroom colleagues & now he's written a humbling piece for our #AboutUs newsletter on the recent mass shootings & racist rhetoric towards the LatinX community washingtonpost.com/nation/2019/08…

"For my show “Alternatino,” we wrote a sketch a year ago called “Welcome to America,” about trying to explain mass shootings in the United States to a recent immigrant from Central America and it making absolutely no sense to him because it has nothing to do with drug wars."

"We were supposed to air the episode last week per the show schedule we set months ago, but we decided to postpone for a week after the shooting in Gilroy, Calif. But I’ve realized now that I can’t postpone it any longer."

"It’s going to air on Tuesday night’s episode because it will always be “too soon” when gun violence happens so frequently. And it’s never too soon to demand meaningful gun reform, and to stop using hate against people of certain ethnicity to gather votes." - from Arturo's piece

Here's what to do now:
1) Tell me to calm down. I'm SUCH a fan of Alternatino & Castro's work that I "squee-ed" in the middle of my newsroom when we published this. 😱
2) You need to subscribe to #AboutUs - the @washingtonpost's newsletter about identity subscribe.washingtonpost.com/newsletters/#/…
