Need help from Twitter world — I found a lost dog running down the street. In Takoma, Washington DC. No name or number on the collar. Can he be ID’d by the rabies tag? Going to hold until noon when the shelters nearby open. In the meantime, please help me find the owner!

I made a makeshift collar. He’s got a strong drive to go — so I’m letting him lead me — maybe he knows where home is.

Spoke to Vetco — they’re contacting the owner and calling me back.

His name is Frosting. He’s 8 months old, up to date on all of his shots, and a very, very good boy. His mom is Renee from Maryland — but they can’t give me any more info than that. His mom has my number in her voice messages. Back in the car so he doesn’t overheat.

We went to @Petco and got him some treats.

Update: about two minutes into being in my office he peed on the braaaaaand new carpet. Oops.

So I got a bunch of “grain-free” treats at Petco, and Frosting is not at all interested in them. He did, however, lick up some cookie frosting outside that was on the ground. No joke. Frosting only eats frosting.

Got some nice strangers to babysit for a minute while I get breakfast. Also — that’s Lamb Chop on the table. He’s not interested in toys.

Update: after I came back he’s happy to see me.

Update: Frosting likes string cheese.

He’s calming down a bit now that I put him on a chair next to me.

Good boy Frosting is laying down now, starting to chill out and people watch.

Pro tip: there is zero reason to give dogs large or filling treats. One single packet of string cheese lasts forever if you shred it down to hair-thin pieces. Dogs love the process that is receiving a treat more than they like their stomach being filled.

When it’s not the carpet — he needs grass to pee on. We’re going to try hanging out in the office again. He’s much more comfortable now, and stays right by my side.

Sure, it’s not an ideal diet... but he’s skinny so the treats are his lunch. He won’t take them from my hand, but I’m a bowl I think he recognizes it as something he’s gotta eat.

This pup needs his own cleanup crew. He’s crunching treats and making a giant mess. Apparently only likes stuff off the floor if it’s his namesake.

For those wondering, I have accomplished exactly zero work today.

Went out to the truck and got a blanket for him to lay down on, and @Lkatzenberg’s “glamping” (glamorous camping) blanket, which is water (pee) proof.

However, he does not approve. It’s either on my lap or nothin.

So I’ve had cats who like to sit on keyboards, and generally get in the way while I try to work. But a dog who insists on standing on my lap... well, it’s equally if not more difficult to work this way.

As is customary for a thread that blows up, I’ve gotta drop a link to share my work. Do you want to see someone fight against foreign trolls who target troops and vets with disinfo and fraud schemes? I’m your guy.

Also, need to amend my first tweet in the thread. I’m going to hold onto Frosting until his owner contacts me. No shelter life for the lapdog.

He’s finally laying down. 5 hours after I left my house for work, I can finally get some stuff done.

So, my wife @Lkatzenberg and I have been planning on adopting a Dachshund in September. Most of the year I’m working from home in NYC by myself — but I travel to DC and live here between spring and fall semesters. We wanted a little companion who would be content just chillin.

This is a huge tease. Frosting is SUCH A GOOD BOY. Perfectly behaved little office dog.

Update: Frosting has finished his whole bowl of treats.

And by “finished” I mean took them out of the bowl and chomped them all over the place.

Good boy Frosting has figured out that the cozy blanket is for him.

Lunchtime! Roasted turkey from @Potbelly’s for Frosting the goodboy.

That turkey was a solid 12/10 according to Frosting.

Guys. This dog is so friggin cute.

Called Vetco again. They haven’t heard from Frosting’s mom yet, and are trying to get in touch with her again.

My gut tells me Frosting escaped after his mom left for work. She probably gave the vet her home phone, not her cell. Probably still doesn’t know that Frosting is missing. I feel bad for the panic that’ll come when she gets home.

And now — back to work.

Zzzzzzzz....

Thanks @ABC7News for helping to get the word out there! wjla.com/news/local/dog…

Tried to take him for another walk, little dude did not like the rain one bit. On the way back into the office he leads me right back to my desk and returns to his spot.

Frosting is not really sure what to think about elevators with windows.

This good boy does NOT like anything being between us. We’re leaving work now. ...going to email the landlord and see what he thinks of dogs in the house...

Okay. Had to stop the truck on the way out of the parking garage because someone is a little clingy...

Frosting is very helpful and making sure the machine doesn’t steal my credit card.

I’ve got bad news... but good news too.
My roommates have given a hard ‘no’ on my bringing the dog into the house. It’s their place year-round and I’m the summer-rental guy, so I can’t blame them.
Good news is @JonMLCoen and his kind wife are letting him sleep over!

Aunt @_kayda_ served up dinner.

Aaaaand it’s gone.

I cannot leave this dude for a second. Poor Frosting is going to have severe separation anxiety forever.

Such a good lapdog.

This is what he looks like when I go inside.
What’s everyone think he is? I’m thinking a dachshund/pibble mix.

Now he’s very, very concerned that @_kayda_ went inside. He’s been sitting on her feet and staring at me. I think he wants his pack to grow.

Guys. He’s so good at fetch with tiny sticks!

Posting 2 hours late — but Frosting is finally cool with not being on my lap in the car. Dropped him off at foster dad Jon’s house with foster doggy brother Gary.

Gary and Frosting are going to be good pals.

Check in on @JonMLCoen’s thread for updates on Frosting’s sleepover with Gary:

Alright, team — time for bed. I’m picking up Frosting first thing in the morning, and we’ll be doing an interview with @fox5dc at 8:17 AM EST. (Yes — that exact time). Let’s find this pupper’s mom!

Time to pick up Frosting!

Ready to go! Thanks uncle @JonMLCoen!

Ready for our morning @Skype interview with @fox5dc!

Folks have been asking me if there’s a way to donate to help Frosting. The good news is that this pup has everything he needs for now. But if you’re feeling inspired by Frosting’s adventures, please donate to support Doxie Rescue Bucks County & NJ here: facebook.com/donate/3748125…

DRBC is where @Lkatzenberg and I were planning to get a rescue next month. If we find Frosting’s mom, we’ll still go forward with those plans. DRBC is great! You can check out their website here: doxierescue.com/Home.html

Frosting got a harness and seatbelt adapter so he can stop being a maniac in the truck.

Okay so I guess I have to readjust the seatbelt adaptor...

Frosting got scanned — no chip.

He knows the drill. Off to work at @VVAmerica!

@VVAmerica Btw -- When I got to the vet, a dog-dad immediately goes "Hey! Is that Frosting?!" He had just seen this @fox5dc news clip:

fox5dc.com/good-day-dc/lo…

Thanks @TPAnimalClinic for scanning the pupper! Your staff was great!

Now Frosting is back to guarding my cubicle.

Frosting is the official @Starbucks Downtown Silver Spring greeter for the moment. He’s hanging out with Wyn, a nice guy we got to know during lunch yesterday.

Lunch is real dog food this time, courtesy of @JonMLCoen and Gen.

Called @TakomaParkPD and @DCPoliceDept to see if anyone had reported a lost or stolen dog. Neither department has heard from Frosting’s owners. Also no reports on a woman named Rene being in an accident or anything.

@TakomaParkPD @DCPoliceDept Another update: I called Vetco again (they serve @Petco locations). Vetco's operator, Christine, was super nice. She called Frosting's mom, Rene -- someone answered, and then the line got disconnected. Christine followed up by sending Rene an email.

Before folks get mad about the disconnect (or hang-up) -- It could be that Frosting's mom is embarrassed, and/or can't afford to take care of the dog. We don't know yet if Rene is calling Vetco back, or answering that email, or what.

If Rene simply abandoned Frosting, hoping that he'd find a forever home that could take good care of him -- that worked. If Frosting isn't claimed by this weekend, @Lkatzenberg and I will assume the role of Frostings Furever parents.

Another piece of info that Vetco was able to provide: Frosting was born on November 23, 2018.

Frosting is the star of his first @VVAmerica Policy and Government Affairs team meeting. He suggests every dog gets issued a veteran by @DeptVetAffairs.

Frosting is soooooo done with this meeting.

When you’re 12 inches tall everything is an adventure.

Frosting doesn’t understand why all these dogs at the dog park aren’t sitting on benches with their humans. Why run around and play in the dirt when you can stay clean and snuggle?

Gary and Frosting has an ice cream party before their sleepover at @JonMLCoen’s

Thanks to Gary, Frosting is starting to come out of his shell and play!

Frosting was way more comfortable dogging af the dog park today. He’s letting strangers pet him, and he’s starting to be a liiiiittle but more comfortable with other dogs coming up to meet him.

Frosting is also learning to love @Lkatzenberg as they go for leased walks.

Famous Goodboy Frosting got another great write-up! Thanks @ProdMichelle for sharing our story! bit.ly/31vioVH?cc=34b…

Another work-related post: The United States has approximately 505,000 veterans who have so-called “bad-paper” discharges, and have had their healthcare benefits taken away. Many have PTSD and no help. Please check out @TaylorMirf’s series for more info:

Frosting is being a little more brave in the office today, peeking around corners to see what my colleagues are doing.

And he’s okay with me using my standing desk today, which is nice. The last two days he had been uncomfortable with me not sitting down close to the ground.

Frosting is taking from cats the “If it fits I sits” motto.

He’s ours! @Lkatzenberg!

Who is writing the lyrics to the “Frosting the Goodboy” song?

Frosting is keeping his original name and getting a proper tag!

Frosting likes to perch. He’s still very confused as to why other dogs are on the ground.

Perfect font for the name.

Our first family video got invaded by allllll the little dogs.

Frosting is back with @JonMLCoen, Gen and Gary for another sleepover. He’s just a little excited about it. Check on Jon’s thread for updates:

Frosting is feeling much more confident today!

One year ago today — I married my best friend, my dream girl, @Lkatzenberg.

So glad @BenFeibleman was there with his cameras to capture it.

When we park, we perch.

When we (dog)park, we perch.

We’re celebrating our 1-year anniversary with a staycation at a dog friendly hotel! 🥰

There is nothing happier than a dog on a dog bed on a bed snuggled between his humans.

He’s so happy 😁

Frosting loooooves his mommy. 😘

RIP My Privacy. Death by Frosting.

Look how happy Gary is:

Breakthrough today at the dog park: Frosting is finally feeling comfortable around new dogs! Meet Dotty:

Frosting has a big crush on Ladybug. 😍

He’s still gotta stay close to mommy, but doesn’t need to perch today.

Bought Frosting a “booster seat” to help him stay put in the car. Just put it together and this is what happened.

Frosting found a new sparring partner: Pablo. Watch their ninja skills!
