If you've read my mega-thread on the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, you may recall discussion of forged documents that showed the Iraqi government had purchased uranium from Niger.
The docs were handed over to the US embassy in Rome.

The documents found their way into the British’s government’s “dodgy dossier” and were used as evidence that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction.
What I never discussed is who was responsible for the forgery.

Vincent Cannistraro has a theory.

Cannistraro spent 27 years with the CIA. He was chief of station on multiple continents, he worked on the National Security Council and in the Dept of Defense. He’s final assignment was Chief of Operations and Analysis at the CIA’s Counterterrorism Center.

Ledeen denies the accusation, of course. I’m not going to detail all the evidence for or against. There’s an entire book on the subject of the Italian Letter for those who are interested.

The point of this thread is to emphasize how much suspicion exists between the US intel community and Ledeen.
To fully understand Spygate, you have to appreciate that history of distrust.
