Tories plan to raise the state pension age to 75 over the next 16 years - Mirror Online

It proposes raising the eligible age to 70 by 2028 and 75 by 2035

So the Dementia Tax for May turns into the “We’ll Work you until you drop” for Johnson.

The 1st people likely to be affected by such a change are those born between 6 March 1961 & 5 April 1977.

Welfare campaigners are appalled & point out that with workplace pensions often unaffordable, 75% of Britain’s elderly will rely entirely on their state payments by 2036.

3/ There was 3% increase in mortality in 2018. That is startling because it continues a rise in mortality that began with the first significant fall in UK life expectancy in 2014 and means that UK life expectancy will still be lower today than it was then, five long years ago.

Meanwhile MPs salaries have increased to c £79.5k & their pensions are calculated at 1/40th (or 1/50th depending on the scheme) for every year worked of their final salary

Mine was 1/80th for each year worked as a public servant.

Of course I haven’t dealt with the uplift in salary for those who are in Government or on the shadow Front Bench

It seems this brilliant idea comes from The Centre for Social Justice much beloved of Tory Gov’s and which is the is chaired by ex-Welfare Secretary and Tory leader Iain Duncan Smith and Tory governments get many of their ideas from it.

Like Universal Credit.

I shall wait with interest hearing the Government responding by saying “All options are on the table and nothing is yet decided”.

Well. It can’t be decided as it has to get through Parliament first.
